You can do like you said and have the ethanol content control boost, but we may not always want to run 850rwhp on the streets which is full boost. When getting E85 from different stations it can vary from minimum 50percent ethanol up to 85percent, so its nice to always know what blend you have in there. The haltech can also show you ethanol percentage, but if the sensor or wireing ever went bad, you would have no way of knowing, and could cause damage. If the sensor fails, the ecu would see 0 percent and your tune would be way off. So the gauge is a nice thing to have in my eyes.
